ZILLA LEUTENEGGER
Selected Drawings 1999 – 2009

28. May 2013 – 24. August 2013

"The drawn, self-regarding female figure is emblematic for Zilla Leutenegger's artistic work. Like in a mirror, she explores in pictures, videos and installations not only her plastic statue formed by clothes and looks. The location, as well, mostly close-by surroundings, the flat, is part of the figure just as much as it affects its surrounding space. (...) The setting of rooms and figures is reduced to a minimun in almost all works; action is rarely to be found even in her filmic oeuvre.
In most cases, a few lines are sufficient to concisely determine what aspects of life are to be pictured.
The term 'image' is used by Leutenegger in an emphatic and not a media specific sense. Her point is to visualise imagination, an image likewise composed by perception and phantasy." (Beate Söntgen)
