Martina Gmür (*1979) was the first Manor Award Winner of Canton Wallis in 2007. Since then she has created a remarkably original oeuvre with works rarely painted on canvas, but often on transparency film, tissue paper, wax, plaster and wood. Giving her paintings the form of reliefs, sculptural objects or room specific installations, she’s entirely dedicated to figurative art. And in so doing, questions everyday life – animals, landscapes, objects or people – by setting in scene the essence and astounding simplicity of life.
